Responsibilities
Standards Strategy Lead (40%):
- Lead regional EU team supporting standards, ensuring that all members are aligned on messaging and have the necessary knowledge and skills to execute the strategy
- Develop robust strategies to engage standards committee representatives and influence standards outcomes with a clear understanding of the broader eco-system and how the different standard setting groups are interconnected
- Align internal resources on the strategic plans and document progress towards those goals
- Work collaboratively with other key internal partners on advocacy related issues
- Effectively communicate the strategy and progress to internal stakeholders at a variety of levels including C-level.
- Identify new opportunities and potential risks to the existing strategy as they develop, adjusting the strategy when necessary
- Develop and maintain relationships with the European Commission’s office of standardization
- Coaches subject matter experts on best methods to engage with standards community
- Attends and helps organize internal Eastman standardization meetings
Standards Development (60%)
- Participate in multiple multi-stakeholder standards development committees representing Eastman (various CEN Technical Committees / ISO Technical Committees)
- Positions Eastman for leadership roles within standards community
- Travels to forums to represent Eastman at required live committee meetings
- Establish and cultivate relationships with critical influencers in the various multi-stakeholder groups, during events and in between
- Develop and execute specific strategies to help influence opinions and perspectives based on data and science
- Serve in leadership roles for advisory groups or committees when warranted
- Participate in accordance with the standard setting body’s guidelines and frameworks
- Assists with creation of standards engagement trainings and associated materials
Qualifications
- 5-10 years of experience actively working on standard development through a CEN / CENELEC / ETSI / ISO / DIN / AFNOR technical committee
- Experience taking one standard through the entire development, drafting, voting cycle and regularly attends virtual and live meetings
- Known as an international expert on a specific topic in the chemicals, plastics or sustainability fields
- Deeply familiar with the processes and voting structures of a standards development organization and is aware of how to nimbly adjust strategy to changing conditions
- Eligible to lead country level technical advisory groups OR technical committees
- Experience drafting and submitting in comments and has had success defending comments
- Networked within the standards community
- Excellent communication, research, and interpersonal skills
- Location is flexible within France or Germany. Consideration may also be given for Belgium or the Netherlands, presuming it is possible to join an AFNOR or DIN committee.
- Fluency in English plus French or German is required
- Must be open to regional and international travel up to 30% of the time, with pandemic ongoing likely to be 10% of time
- Advanced degree in a related field, such as chemical engineering, chemistry, geography, sustainability, materials science, textiles, plastics, or soil science preferred
- Familiarity with at least one of the following: CEN / CENELEC / ETSI / DIN / AFNOR / ISO / ASTM / UL / TUV / BSI or other national standards body required
