Responsibilities

This position is for an EXPERIENCED Chemical Engineer for GPS (Global Process Support) to support manufacturing, pilot plant, and lab scale process improvement and scale-up within Technology.  The candidate would be based near one of Eastman’s large manufacturing sites (Kingsport, TN or Longview, TN), and would travel as needed to provide global process improvement and described support at Eastman’s manufacturing sites around the world. 

The job responsibilities are as follows:

1.)  Provide remote or onsite support to any of Eastman’s approximately 50 global manufacturing sites.  Travel is expected to be >50%, and may require temporary relocations of 2-9 months at times.  Compensation and reimbursement for travel and relocation, including tax adjustments, are provided.  

2.) Partner with colleagues as part of cross-functional teams including technology, manufacturing, businesses, HSES, quality assurance and other functions to drive process improvement projects, growth programs, and business initiatives. 

3.) Propose and execute production trials and tests on lab, pilot, and manufacturing scales, utilizing design of experiment methodology where applicable.  Analyze subsequent data and make sound recommendations to the sponsoring organization. 

4.) Use a data driven approach to troubleshoot daily operational issues - interface with operations and maintenance personnel as problems are addressed. 

5.)  Develop methods and strategies to scale up new products and processes from lab to pilot to manufacturing scales. 

6.) Provide project leadership and develop lab, pilot plant, and manufacturing trials, experiments and plant start-ups. 

7.) Provide timely and relevant communications to management and project stakeholders by communicating project needs, value, priorities, and decisions to ensure project success.

Qualifications 

Required Education:

BS in Chemical Engineering 

Required Experience:

5+ years experience related to manufacturing support, process development, or process improvement 

Additional Qualifications:

  • Commitment to high level of safety and environmental awareness
  • Experience in pilot plant support and scaling small-scale processes to plant-scale equipment (preferred)
  • Exhibit good leadership attitudes and behaviors
  • Must be a self-starter with a focus on results 
  • Ability to lead and drive challenging projects forward despite uncertainties
  • Ability to adapt and adjust priorities as appropriate to respond to changes in business priorities/demands
  • Comfortable challenging peers and supervision to develop creative solutions
  • Proven ability to engage well with technicians/operators, peers, and management
  • Excellent written, listening, and verbal communication skills
