Aviva are currently hiring for a Catastrophe Analyst to join our team in London!
This fantastic opportunity to join a new growing team has come about due to Aviva bringing their Catastrophe modelling inhouse.
The team is responsible for the modelling and assessment of our exposures across all lines of business written by UK General Insurance globally. This includes understanding our exposures to catastrophic events across the world and developing our capability for new and emerging risks such as cyber, to drive action and insight to inform our underwriting strategies.
A major project is underway, which will provide an innovative, and largely automated Exposure Management and Catastrophe Modelling environment in-house. Phase 1 of the project is nearly complete, which is why we are now growing our team.
This is an especially broad role, across all commercial classes of insurance, to support catastrophe pricing, and to build out the workstreams.
The opportunity to specialise will also be available once the team is embedded.
The team now sits within our Quantum department, so access to data engineering, data scientists, and analytics will be a part of this role.
Reviewing and modelling exposure data using 3rd party and proprietary catastrophe models and tools
Working closely with the underwriters to interpret cat model-based analysis for risk selection, for multiple territories worldwide in UKGI
Supporting development of our exposure management techniques for non-modelled perils/territories and improving existing techniques (e.g. Flood Catchment assessment)
Supporting the monthly roll-up process and associated reporting requirements for the Commercial division, including monitoring against internal and external limits
Prepare regulatory returns on an ad hoc basis, taking ownership of at least one
Carrying out data quality analytics and working with underwriters to improve the completeness, resolution and appropriateness of key data inputs
A background of working in a Catastrophe Modelling team in either a syndicate or General Insurer supporting a P&C portfolio
CAT modelling or exposure management experience
Experience with AIR models is preferred
Practical experience of portfolio roll-up, reporting and communication
Python or R programming experience
Strong understanding of key mathematical and statistical concepts, and of Cat metrics such as PMLs, AALs and to communicate them to a non-technical audience
Attention to detail, with an inquisitive, analytical mind-set – a passion for pulling things apart and understanding both how they work and how they get used
What will you get for this role?
A salary of circa £50,000 depending on skills, experience and qualifications
Generous defined contribution pension scheme
Annual performance related bonus and pay review
Holiday allowance of 29 days plus bank holidays and the option to buy/sell up to 5 additional days
Up to 40% discount for some Aviva products through “My Aviva Extras†plus discounts for Friends and Family (some exclusions apply)
Excellent range of flexible benefits to include a matching share save scheme
At Aviva, we’re people with a purpose. To be with you today, for a better tomorrow!
We bring this to life by ensuring managing risk is at the heart of the way we all work. We love people who do the right thing for our customers, and our colleagues. We want people who speak up, who take responsibility, and who make good decisions.
The way we do this is important too. We’re all about our people – that’s you – so we can be pretty flexible. If you want to work from home some of the time or change your hours so you can pick up your kids or care for someone in your family, we’re very open to that. In fact, we don’t advertise roles as either part or full time, because we know each person has different needs, just as each business area has different needs. So, it’s up to you to discuss working hours during your interview.
We care deeply about being inclusive and that means we encourage applications from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We want our employees to bring their whole self to work and that starts with you.
We interview every disabled applicant* that meets the minimum criteria for the job. Once you’ve applied, please send us a separate email stating that you have a disclosed disability, and we’ll make sure we interview you.
We’d love it if you could submit your application online. If you require an alternative method of applying, please give Ben Parker a call on 07833 239394 or send an email to ben.parker@aviva.com
*As defined in The Equality Act 2010*. By ‘minimum criteria’ we mean you should provide us with evidence which demonstrates that you generally meet the level of competence required and have the qualifications, skills or experience defined as essential to perform the role.
