Job Description

Who we are looking for

The BCBS 248 Intraday Liquidity project within State Street’s Corporate Systems – Global Technology Services (GTS) organization is looking for an experienced quantitative analyst to join our team.

BCBS 248 has been the firm’s leading data solution for monitoring, measuring and managing intraday liquidity. Our mission is to strengthen State Street’s visibility into daily inflows and outflows of cash - critical to optimizing the balance sheet of a custody bank. Intraday liquidity management continues to be an area of heightened focus for global regulators as an emerging and complicated segment of liquidity management. Improving our ability to navigate the economics of holding static liquidity versus managing it dynamically has the potential for significant interest expense reduction and reduction in regulatory risk, with practical implications for our liquidity rating, our RRP capabilities and our sophistication in offering clients real insights into the liquidity cost/benefit of their investment decisions.

What you will be responsible for

This position is considered a key contributor to realization of the BCBS 248 Intraday Liquidity team’s mission of strengthening State Street’s visibility into daily inflows and outflows of cash. As lead Business Analyst in an Industrialized Agile development environment, they will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring proper assessment of complex intraday liquidity data systems infrastructure, and serving as the subject matter expert by developing a deep understanding of all liquidity model data, uses cases, and changes that may impact downstream scenarios
  • Working with Business and Operations teams to ensure functional and accurate model implementation by thoroughly reviewing all available documentation, coordinating the work of others, and analyzing test results of all model methodology changes proposed by various parties
  • Performing all aspects related to model change control governance and data stewardship – including authoring appropriate test cases, test applications, procedures and controls, implementation writeups with supporting evidence, model validation tests and submissions, and project management activities that ensure all initiatives and enhancements are properly controlled and on track
  • Advancing proper market calibration methodologies used by quantitative team for the fine tuning of forecasting coefficients
  • Operating and monitoring complex quantitative and statistical methodologies as needed to assess market payment and demand deposit accounting data
  • Understanding the lifecycle of transaction flows, and preparing complex data mapping to establish accurate running balances under a variety of market circumstances
  • Translating requirements documents into technical specification instructions for developers
  • Working closely with Development team, engaging in technical analysis of proposed coding logic
  • Working closely with Testing team, brainstorming test scenarios and test cases to ensure thorough testing for expected outcomes, negative cases, regression scrutiny and identification of unexpected outcomes
  • Scrutinizing test results in advance of Product Owner demonstrations, and recommending approval/rejection of stories
  • Working closely with Business and Operations teams, investigating production issues, report anomalies and failures in join logic; conducting open-ended analysis of new data sources; and identifying subtle patterns in transactional data to propose potential criteria for new join logic
  • Continually striving to achieve the highest possible degree of accuracy in regulatory reporting, revisiting join logic to accommodate new scenario anomalies
  • Conducting detailed post-deployment checkout for new code releases
  • Preparing presentation materials to share findings from analysis with senior management
  • Serving as the representative of product analysis and modeling with model risk oversight, regulatory agencies, and internal oversight functions
  • Managing competing priorities, and ensuring timely completion of assigned tasks

What we value

Additionally, the position will also:

  • Work closely with model owners, users, senior management and other Business/Operations units to understand business needs and conditions
  • Conduct complex financial modeling used to derive sound assumption sets and build towards business conclusions
  • Be able to blend rigorous quantitative analysis with qualitative insights from business units
  • Apply knowledge/skills handling complex problems and/or coordinate work which may extend beyond own area of expertise – sharing findings and expertise with colleagues in other departments

Education & preferred qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Financial Engineering, Math, Statistics, or other relevant quantitative fields, with a high proficiency in time series analysis and financial modeling
  • 6-8 years of Intraday Liquidity, or quantitative experience in large, complex financial institutions, with demonstrated use of a variety of mathematical/application tools to perform appropriate analysis and to refine computer modeling applications

  • A broad-based technology background – familiar with modelling data, BI/visualization tools and databases – with a history of understanding and absorbing business and technology concepts quickly
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to articulate ideas, analysis and complex concepts effectively to broad audiences
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills are required – especially Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Word and MS Outlook – with a working knowledge of Rational Team Concert (RTC) as a plus
