Job Description

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an associate director to join our Business Rates team at GL Hearn. You will be working in the Retail Warehouse and High Street Valuer teams with support from colleagues in our Client Liaison, Administration Support and Referencing teams. The main area of work will be retail, office, industrial and local authority occupations but all major classes of property are involved from time to time. In addition to this we have our central administration teams based in Southampton and Cheltenham and it will be key for you to communicate effectively across all teams and offices

Job Description:

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing advice and recommendations to clients regarding CCA and other general rating matters
  • Responsibility for agreeing levels of value in respect of the 2017 Rating List
  • Accurate maintenance of GL Hearn’s bespoke information management system
  • Managing successful settlement of case work and timely reporting of settlements to clients
  • Advice to clients regarding rates liabilities and budgeting matters
  • Timely response to business rates enquiries from clients
  • Business development: seeking opportunities with prospective clients
  • Inspecting and measuring properties as required

What we’re looking for:

  • Qualified Chartered Surveyor with minimum 5-years PQE
  • Expert knowledge of valuation for rating purposes
  • Experience in the negotiation of rating appeals, submission of Challenges and attendance at Valuation Tribunal
  • Understanding of rate liability calculations and reliefs
  • IT skills (Microsoft Office packages, bespoke database management experience)
  • Experience of property inspections for Check purposes
  • Knowledge of the property market in key locations in the north
  • Ability to collaborate at all levels across the whole business rates team
  • Ability to work to deadlines and managing your own workload.
