The role:

We're looking for a Platform Lead to join the ASOS technology team to lead and own the Enterprise Reporting team's prioritisation, delivery, and operations within the Data Technology landscape. This critical role is part of the department's leadership team and reports directly to the Head of Data Platforms.

The Enterprise Reporting platform is a critical set of technologies that deliver all of the enterprise wide business-insight as well as critical data feeds out to a number of other platforms including Data Science, Advanced Analytics & our suppliers/providers.  The technologies in use include Azure Synapse, Azure SQL Warehouses, Microstrategy & Power BI. 

In this role you will have 6-7 direct reports who are a mix of Project Managers, Lead Data Engineers, Lead QA & BA’s.  The wider team you will be responsible for is structured in agile delivery teams consisting of BA’s, Solution Architects, Data Engineers & QA’s.  The total team is split across 5-6 engineering teams and is 30 engineers & 40 suppliers in scale.  This team is expected to scale up significantly in the next financial year to meet our evolving and growing data demands.

Both permanent & supplier resources are split across London (Greater London House), UK Wide, Northern Ireland, Nearshore & Offshore

What you'll be doing:

  • You will contribute to, agree, and continuously review the data roadmap with the Head of Data Platforms and ensure it meets both business and technology objectives maximising the benefits for ASOS.
  • You will provide leadership to your team of Business Analysts, Data Engineers, QA’s, Platform Engineers & the 3rd party development & support teams
  • You will be accountable for all planning and delivery across the Enterprise Reporting Platform via the data engineering teams
  • You will enjoy collaborating with other Data Platform leads & Principle, Lead Engineers to ensure effective leadership of the data domain & that cross-functional teams work effectively together
  • You will be accountable for planning and delivery of the other cross-data platform backlog/services, working closely with the relevant business product manager(s)/business analysts and appropriate stakeholders
  • You will be accountable for reaching out to your business stakeholders to help understand their requirements, provide status updates on deliveries & operational issues & generally be their go-to for Enterprise Reporting needs
  • Drive the day-to-day operations, monitoring and maintenance of the platform to ensure reliable, predictable, and efficient service.
  • Proactively monitor production performance to help guide future development and opportunities for technical or functional improvement.
  • Drive the identification of enhancements and continuous improvements within the platform, supporting the improvement in conversion, value, revenue, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure all aspects of the platform are addressed, including scalability, security, maintainability and supportability.
  • Own and continuously improve the delivery process, including testing, build and deployment and code quality.
  • Identify opportunities for technical innovations which add value to the platform and/or business objectives.
  • Work closely with other platform teams/project management/release management, which may be dependent on/impacted by changes in the platform scope or technical implementation.
  • Work closely with the 3rd party service delivery team to ensure that the platform infrastructure, alerting, batch and application support is robust and cost-effective.
  • Embrace and advocate Agile ways of working in technology and the wider business team.

Who we'd like to meet:

  • You will have demonstrable hands on delivery experience in the data technology space and possess strong expertise and knowledge across the full spectrum of data capability, this includes, Data Engineering, AI, Data Science, Machine Learning and Predictive Analytics
  • You will have spearheaded successful data strategies / initiatives that have resulted in adding tangible business value  
  • You will currently be operating at Senior or Lead Data Engineer level (ideally for a B2C brand or large enterprise company)
  • As well as being hands on, you will be skilled conceptually and be comfortable presenting to business leaders, translating technical insights and inspiring non-technical minded audiences
  • You will enjoy staying abreast of the latest technologies in the data space and constantly be looking for the next technical innovations
  • You will be an excellent leader with a strong track record in managing data engineering teams who work via Agile Methodologies.
  • In addition, you will have experience of working with a combination of onshore/offshore/nearshore and remote working teams.
  • You will have a deep-rooted knowledge in the latest cutting-edge technologies and ideally you will have worked with Microsoft Azure or equivalent vendors
  • You will be commercially savvy and comfortable managing financial budgets
