Job Description

Purpose

In this role you will negotiate and execute power purchase agreements for renewable energy and power supply contracts, as well as deliver innovative solutions creating a diverse, cost effective energy portfolio for the Group.

You will take the lead on business development to enable the company to build a long-term portfolio of cost effective Power Purchase Agreements (PPA’s_ across a range of partners and technologies. Lastly, you will structure any transactions for the business effectively and in line with risk appetite and within governance parameters

Contribution

  • Conduct market mapping and scanning activities to identify PPA opportunities with new and existing partners
  • Build strategic relationships and partnering opportunities with key partners and suppliers across the retail, commercial and industrial sectors.
  • Evaluate and manage technical aspects within RFP processes and bid strategy and development to closure.
  • Work with transaction and analytical members of the commercial team involved in legal, debt and equity functions.
  • Ensure business cases for new business streams and route to market opportunities are consistent, accurate and decisions on investment are made on the best information via a co-ordinated set of metrics, assumptions and outputs.
  • Compile business, pipeline and project performance reports for the busines
  • Negotiate business terms with new and existing clients using phone, email and in-person meetings
  • Keep abreast of industry / market developments and long-term agreement opportunities through external bodies and information channels. Continuously benchmark Group internal standards and services against those available in the market.
  • Continuously analyse wholesale energy market trends and inter-relationships to identify cost saving / risk management opportunities.
  • Provide management information to justify buying and policy decisions and to monitor long-term performance against agreed objectives.
  • Support the Group’s Environmental objectives with innovative solutions so that we maintain our market leading Green electricity / sustainable energy position. This includes supporting an agreed level of renewable developments with an agreed level of direct PPA’s

Empowered to

  • Independently investigate alternative buying solution & options with suppliers and potential partners 
  • Freedom to negotiate PPA contract arrangements and costs structure within limited agreed by the MD Co-op Power and Director of Procurement
  • The day-to- day management of contracts, subject to the agreement of key success criteria with the MD Co-op Power and the Director of Procurement
  • Determines allocation of pre-determined resources to achieve plans – subject to approval by MD Co-op Power
  • Scans the external environment and make recommendations on future changes to Co-op procurement strategy
  • Establish and manage the relationship with internal stakeholders so that their requirements are understood, and they are kept up to date with progress and performance against agreed plans.

Capabilities

  • Power Purchase Agreements experience (structure, terms etc)
  • Understanding of solar and wind renewable energy projects
  • Provide expert energy market advice on a range of topics relating to the procurement of PPA’s, including non-commodity costs and REGOs
  • Demonstrates meticulous attention to detail
  • Uses expert market knowledge and negotiation skills to ensure future contracts with suppliers are secured at the most favourable rate
  • Makes future cost decisions impacting budgets and forecasts using data and market insights
  • Implementation of Co-op Power’s buying strategy, subject to alignment with Co-op Treasury’s buying policy
  • Communicates technical subject matter to non-technical audience in order to build colleague engagement and understanding
