Summary

This pivotal role reports into the Affordability Insights Agile Release Train (ART) within the Provider Contracting and Network Performance Experience Group, which is an organization tasked with creating proprietary software to help Cigna and Evernorth achieve it strategic affordability goals.  As a Business Analytics Advisor you will be part of a dedicated team focused on creating a new, cloud-based Payer Competitive Intelligence Tool. 

Effective 07/01/2022, health insurance payers are required to disclose certain pricing information according to a new federal law called Cost Transparency.  The new Competitive Intelligence Tool will use this data to provide insights that inform the market planning and provider contracting business cycles, two critical processes that drive our competitive position in the marketplace.

The role of Business Analyst (BA) is an essential member of an Agile Scrum team.  First, they are responsible for developing a deep understanding of the business process in order to identify business requirements, which are the lifeblood of features and user stories.   This visible and influential role is also instrumental in the design, creation, and testing of the software product.  In addition, BA’s are intensely involved with user acceptance testing to ensure the product meets our customers’ expectations. 

This position is with Evernorth, a new business within the Cigna Corporation.

  • Knowledge of health insurer operations and products

  • Strong healthcare data knowledge and hands on experience (medical claims data, clinical data, pharmacy data and eligibility data)

  • A powerful inquisitiveness and curiosity about data

  • Experience working with iterative development

  • Strong technical skills including advanced Excel, querying language (SQL/SAS). Other programming experience to demonstrate technical strength (VBA/Python/C++) highly desired

  • Experience with Teradata and Hadoop and output through advanced visualization tools including, but not limited to: Tableau/R/Python

  • The ability to understand complex concepts and adapt communications to a variety of stakeholders with differing levels of technical acumen

What are the key responsibilities of this role?

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders within the Network Analytics, Competitive Intelligence, Compliance and Technology departments as well as end users to understand their needs and translate them into product requirements

  • Utilize analytics and reporting tools to understand complex data issues and identify solutions

  • Prepare for and participate in key planning sessions, cross-functional meetings, and tool demonstrations

  • Test data ingestion and downstream integration as they relate to critical files and data populations

  • Partner with Product Owner to help maintain a comprehensive roadmap that incorporate key insights and modifications

  • Exhibit in-depth understanding of data and leverage it in an appropriate manner to effectively communicate with leadership and key Business stakeholders

  • Communicate analytical findings/gaps/solutions to the scrum team and offer solutions to meet gaps using knowledge of existing/available data

  • Technical skill sets across a distributed data architecture (including SQL Server, Excel, Python, Redshift, and other relevant software applications such as SAS and SQL)

  • Ensure customers are satisfied with the accuracy, timeliness, and reliability of data being provided

  • Ensure quality and integrity of data collected and analyses performed

Qualifications

This position requires healthcare and insurance content knowledge, comfort with agile development, and demonstrated experience in driving analytic/technology projects.

  • 5+ years of healthcare experience solving business problems or needs through the application of data and analytic approaches

  • Familiarity with provider contracting, healthcare economics, general pricing/financial planning is preferred

  • Must possess the ability to operate as a self-starter with a bias for action

  • Comfort with change and ambiguity in a fast paced environment

  • Must possess emotional intelligence and the ability to negotiate and influence

  • Strong ability to effectively communicate with leadership and key stakeholders

This role is WAH/Flex which allows most work to be performed at home. Employees must be fully vaccinated if they choose to come onsite.

This position is not eligible to be performed in Colorado.
