Capita One are looking for a Business Analyst/Product Owner to join their team and act as a product expert for the Education product suite. Our primary market is Local Government, and our software is used by over 100 local authorities in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland to support children and young people in getting the best education they can, enabling the authorities to provide the support needed to achieve their best outcomes and also to support young people when they stray from the straight and narrow into the criminal justice system.
Based at home, the Business Analyst/Product Owner will manage the product development backlog, release content, and delivery for selected products. The Business Analyst/Product Owner will take ownership to ensure commitments are met, challenges are overcome, and collaboration leads to success. The Business Analyst/Product Owner will also help support the Product Management team by providing day-to-day assistance, advice and problem solutions to customers and support desk staff in relation to product implementation, customisation, queries, and product issues.

What you’ll be doing:
supporting the delivery of new modules, features or functions from a product perspective while working with development, documentation, professional services and other stakeholders
owing and managing product backlogs and prioritising work for software product releases for selected products
working with the Product team to determine release content and with the delivery team to ensure requirements are delivered as specified and on time
acting as the product expert for your products and helping to identify reported issues and resolving them
working closely with support colleagues to help resolve customer problems where they cannot be solved at first line and understanding trends in the products
answering customer and field support questions and providing guidance and support for product issues
identifying, documenting and report designing reliability and maintenance problems and bugs
gathering and consolidating feedback from customers and field staff
coordinating with field support specialists and customers to address and resolve problems and expand product usage
taking on the role of Product Owner for selected products
What we’re looking for:
Essential:
Recent experience as a Business Analyst for one or more software products (or product-team adjacent)
Ability to own the delivery of software from start to end and working collaboratively to ensure a ‘can do’ attitude across teams
Ability to be robust in driving work to conclusion
Ability to be professional but challenging roadblocks and finding innovative solutions
Experience in delivering on-premise and cloud based software products
Good knowledge of Agile software development and delivery principles
Excellent clarity of communication skills and ability to distil complex information to simple stakeholder messages suitable for technical or non-technical audiences
Ability to identify potential issues or conflicts and knowing when to escalate
Ability to efficiently prioritise a varied workload
Ability to work independently and to take initiative
Experience dealing with clients/customers and communicating in a professional manner
Desirable:
Experience of and desire to mentor colleagues in the Business Analyst role
Desire to perform the Product Owner role and to be an active part of the Product Management team
Local Government background / experience – particularly Education
Technical software knowledge – e.g. SQL, databases
Experience of working effectively with offshore development teams – particularly in India
Experience with Azure DevOps (product backlog management tool) or similar (e.g. Jira)
Experience of Aha product management tool
Knowledge of Behaviour Driven Development (BDD)
