Summary

The In-House Services team aims to deliver a comfortable, safe and efficient environment for Members, their staff and staff of the House to work in; as well as providing a welcoming and functional environment for all visitors to Parliament.

The buildings on the Parliamentary estate are unique for differing reasons, some due to their heritage, others because of their need to be inside the secure perimeter and those outside of this, still require significant security and safety considerations.

Job description

The Building Manager manages every aspect of their buildings and the resources in place to maintain and service to provide a positive holistic user experience. This includes buildings facilities, security, health and safety, fire safety, emergency preparedness and all other services. They act as the point of focus for all building users.

Responsibilities

Previous experience of successfully working in demanding customer facing management roles such in Facilities Management, Retail, Airlines or Hospitality.

Customer Focused Service: Sets exacting standards for the service delivered to customers. Identifies and takes action to deal with the issues and needs of different groups. Anticipates and plans for the evolving needs of those who use our services. Actively seeks to connect with those disengaged with our services.

Builds collaborative relationships with stakeholders, parliamentary staff and contractors to achieve common goals, is self-aware and can manage own emotions and handle those of others and promotes a culture of diversity and inclusion.

Sets realistic objectives, monitors performance, gives feedback in a form the jobholder can understand and use and supports development

Gathers information from a range of sources, probes for further information, identifies risks and considers alternative options to make sound decisions, often setting precedent or interpreting guidelines in unusual circumstances.
