Job Summary –

Sustain and improve existing manufacturing processes. Support new product introductions and influence designs to improve manufacturability.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide production support to the manufacturing team. Assist with evaluating and resolving safety, quality, delivery, and productivity issues
  • Identify, design and implement new fixtures and tools to improve quality, reduce scrap, and improve throughput
  • Analyze throughput of production line and implement improvements using time studies, line balancing, and other lean manufacturing methods
  • Participate in the new product development (NPD) process to ensure the product design incorporates design for manufacturability (DFM)
  • Lead manufacturing readiness activities in preparation for new product introduction (NPI)
  • Create and maintain process documentation including work instructions and labor standards for various manufacturing areas
  • Help support and improve plant safety and ergonomic programs
  • Create, maintain and improve plant floor and manufacturing area layout drawings
  • Identify and lead capital projects including cost justification, procurement, project management, and implementation
  • Act as a liaison between manufacturing, product engineering and program management
  • Communicate effectively to management, peers, operators, and conduct training as needed

Education/Background:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Manufacturing Engineering
  • 1-5 years minimum experience in a Manufacturing Engineering role. College graduates with a relevant manufacturing internship or co-op role will be considered.
  • Experience supporting a mechanical assembly line
  • 3D CAD experience required. SolidWorks preferred. Will be tested.
  • Strong computer skills; especially MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Strong problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles with a proven track record of success
  • Certified Six Sigma Green Belt or ability to obtain certification
  • Experience supporting, programming and implementing automated assembly equipment
  • Experience with new product introduction processes
  • Knowledge of PFMEA
  • Experience participating in Kaizen events
  • Familiarity with lean six sigma tools such as DMAIC, 5-Why, 8-D, and 5S
  • Demonstrated problem solving, innovation, team participation, and self-motivation.
  • Ability to work well under pressure

  • Teamwork skills
  • Problem-solving skills
