Position Summary:

Responsible for designing parts and assemblies in 3D CAD, developing CAD drawings, and creating manufacturing documentation for new and existing boat models.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all phases of new product development, especially Concept Development, Design Validation, and Process/Production Validation
  • Coordinate efforts as necessary between Product Development and Engineering, Operations, Purchasing, and suppliers
  • Design prototype parts and assemblies using 3D CAD (Solidworks)
  • Support the development of fabrication/assembly fixtures and tools
  • Create, organize, and update CAD part drawings and manufacturing documentation; review drawings for accuracy and compliance to standards.  Gather as-built information to ensure accuracy.
  • Support the development of Crestliner, Lowe and Lund Electronic Parts Catalogs
  • Assist in the development of material specifications for parts
  • Work with other Product Development and Engineering personnel to establish, update, and manage Bills of Material
  • Participate in the Engineering Change Request/Notification (ECR/ECN) process as needed, including writing ECR’s
  • Be a contributor on problem solving, cost reduction, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Respond to requests from other departments as necessary and appropriate
  • Ability to carry out cross-functional assignments and projects when needed
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the systems utilized to carry out the tasks for this position including OBMS, Soildworks, Solidworks PDM, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office applications

Required and Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field is required, equivalent training may be considered
  • Three to five years of Computer Aided Design required: Solidworks and Solidworks PDM; 3D experience is required
    • Sheet metal component design beneficial
  • Five to ten years of experience in product development and/or engineering and manufacturing experience required
  • Solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles and experience developing a coordinated datum structure for individual parts, assemblies, and manufacturing processes
  • Solidworks PDM (Product Data Management) experience would be very beneficial
  • Working knowledge of appropriate engineering principles
  • Working knowledge of appropriate ABYC/NMMA certification would be very beneficial
  • Working knowledge of boat manufacturing processes and techniques would be beneficial
  • Boating experience would be beneficial
  • Must be a self-starter capable of working both independently, as well as part of a team
  • Strong organizational skills, effective communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills are required
  • Must be willing to work more than 40 hours per week periodically to complete the job
  • Must be willing to travel up to 30% of the time.
  • Must have strong computer skills and be proficient with Microsoft Office software; Lotus Notes knowledge a plus
  • Must have solid analytical skills and be a good problem solver
  • Must have demonstrated ability to manage projects to successful completion
  • Working knowledge of Bill of Materials systems would be a plus

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk, hear, see, sit, and use arms, hands and fingers to key and maneuver a mouse on a PC system.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, balance, and use arms and hands to reach, pull, push, clasp and move a variety of materials.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.  The noise level in the office work environment is low to moderate.

The employee will frequently be exposed to a heavy manufacturing work environment that includes high noise level and exposure to chemical vapors, moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, vibration and electricity.  Eye and ear protection, as well as steel toed shoes, are required at all times in the manufacturing environment.  Hard hats may be required in certain areas of the work environment.  Particle masks, gloves, wrist braces, aprons, back support, ear protection, etc., are available for use.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
