POSITION SUMMARY

The Buyer/Planner coordinates and controls sourcing activities with a keen focus on purchased parts planning during the launch of new models at Boston Whaler.

ROLES AND RESPONSBILITIES

  • Analyzes, forecasts, and schedules materials to support rapid commercialization of new model releases
  • Communicates engineering specifications to suppliers and negotiates best cost during new model development
  • Design and execute parts planning strategies in conjunction with production procurement
  • Drive activities that minimize purchase part lead times through our high-performance product development process
  • Ensures materials are available to support development and integration of new models into production
  • Establishes professional working relationships with suppliers and communicates priorities for critical shipments
  • Identifies and develops opportunities for material cost reductions
  • Lead activities for specification clarification as well as revision planning during new model development
  • Maintain internal database with timely and accurate information to assist in the management of supplier selection, best cost, and development lead times
  • Manages parts readiness for aggressive commercialization during production integration
  • Represent New Program Sourcing with service on product Core Teams
  • Supports Model Year Enhancements and Special Instruction parts through sourcing and ordering

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in purchasing or materials management required 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Materials Management or Engineering Preferred
  • AS400, Ultriva, and prior MRP experience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred 
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Excel required

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to balance multiple priorities
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Experience collaborating across departments to achieve goals
  • Ability to proactively resolve supplier and specification issues
  • Requires excellent communication and people skills 
  • Proven sourcing and problem-solving skills required

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and toxic or caustic chemicals.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
