Job Description

It is our people behind life’s passions who will make the big difference. If you are interested in becoming part of a company that delivers market leading products, driving your own career and working with brands committed to active lifestyles, then you’ve found your fit.

Have what it takes? Join us.

Boston Whaler, Daytona State University, and the Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education  (FAME)  are partnering together to offer a two-year rotational work/study program designed to provide a foundation in core manufacturing process along with the opportunity to earn your associates degree! Over the course of a two-year period, participants will complete five 3-month rotational assignments within Boston Whaler’s manufacturing operations, while attending classes at Daytona State University to earn their associates degree of Science in Engineering Technology.

The rotational assignments will involve direct hands-on experience within Boston Whaler’s Finishing, Lamination, Electrical Assembly, Prefabrication, and Continuous Improvement departments. The intent is for participants to be able to take the concepts that they are learning in the classroom and apply them in the workplace.

  • In Finishing, participants will learn about Quality Assurance. They will be trained to identify defects in fiberglass parts and will be training on how to sand, shape, and repair areas to eliminate the defect.
  • In Lamination, participants will learn how the hull, deck, liner, and other large boat parts like consoles are molded from fiberglass. After learning the process, they will then build these items using computed based and hand held measuring tools to ensure the parts are within specification and not overweight
  • In Continue Improvement, participants will either lead or participant in Lean Manufacturing Projects to improve process and efficiencies on the Manufacturing floor.
  • In Electrical Assembly, participants will follow drawings, diagrams, samples, and written or verbal instructions to assemble small internal and other electrical and mechanical components according to the schematics.
  • In Prefabrication, participant will gain exposure to CNC machines including responsibilities like machine set up, operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine, maintaining quality and safety standards, keeping records, and maintaining equipment and supplies.

What is FAME?

The Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (FAME) is a  nationally recognized program based on Toyota’s Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) program. The earn-while-you-learn model provides students the pathway to earn an industry recognized degree while gaining valuable experience at Boston Whaler. In two years, graduates of the program earn an Engineering Technology Associate of Science degree, and log approximately 1,800 paid on-the-job hours at their sponsoring company. Click here to see all required courses.

If selected, students participate in the 40+ hour per week training program where they attend college two days a week and work three days a week (at least 24 hours) at Boston Whaler.

  • Have a Standard High School Diploma or GED
  • Be a US citizen or eligible for work in the US
  • Demonstrate academic success as measured through grades and class rank

What Makes the FAME Program Different?
