There are not many people that can say, “I operate one of the most stunning engineering structures in the world & carry boats 50ft in the air” …. but could you be one of them?

 

Anderton Boat Lift is working boat lift, & a major historical attraction built in 1875, nestled in Northwich in Cheshire along the stunning River Weaver & the Trent and Mersey Canal. This gigantic lift is ‘one of a kind’ and an amazing feat of engineering that carries narrowboats 50ft up in the air transporting them from the canal to the river, and vice versa. Every year, we welcome thousands of visitors to the site to see this amazing structure and each year we get busier and busier with more and more people wanting to spend time on the water for holidays, business and wellbeing.

 

We are a looking for 2 new colleagues to join our team on a permanent basis her at Anderton Boat Lift.  You will be working alongside our seasonal colleagues and volunteers to prove our boaters with outstanding friendly and helpful customer excellence.

 

You will often be the first person that boaters will meet as they approach the lift; many filled with excitement as this may be their first time entering the lift on a boat. Some boaters use the lift regularly and are keen to know what is new, and going on locally, as they travel down/up the lift in their boat. You will be key to ensuring all our visitors have a fascinating experience that is safe, and full of useful information whether this is about the lift, the River Weaver, the canal network or what they can visit and explore in the area by water.

 

In depth training will be provided as well as a uniform and personal protection equipment such as a lifejacket..

Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience

You'll be working with a friendly team at our totally unique visitor attraction, creating an amazing and memorable experience for our thousands of visitors to the attraction every year, all year around.

 

The role/responsibilities:

  • Working outside, ensure that the customer experience is maximised by providing outstanding levels of customer service in accordance with defined standards and promote Canal & River Trust by maintaining a professional approach at all times.
  • Undertake the operation of Anderton Boat Lift in a safe manner to ensure that customers are not hindered in their visit to the waterway.
  • Undertake key duties associated with the maintenance of the Boat Lift and grounds e.g. towpath litter removal, towpath and access repairs.
  • Ensure that environmental and heritage issues are taken into consideration in all work that is undertaken.
  • Work alongside and supervise volunteers, to deliver high quality works, maintaining and building on our high levels of volunteer satisfaction.
  • Undertake work in a productive and efficient manner delivering the work to the correct standard and agreed programme.
  • Display the Trust values and behaviours at all times
  • Ensure that diversity and inclusion are integrated into all aspects of Trust life and promote inclusion by challenging behaviour, practices, actions, or decisions that are counter to the objectives of the Trust’s policies and values

Skills/qualifications:

  • Basic literacy, numeracy and computer skills.
  • Experience of working within relevant environment e.g. customer service
  • Ability to communicate confidently and clearly with a diverse range of people
  • Some experience in a customer facing role within a leisure or customer service environment
