What you’ll achieve:

As a Firmware Principal Engineer, you’ll work with an experienced team of engineers to root cause failures affecting shipping and under development systems, to proactively drive changes in products and processes that will reduce failures in the future, and contributing to retention and satisfaction of Dell’s customers. You’ll apply and develop skills and experiences across the full cycle of system and firmware development.  The RCA team’s passion is to identify and resolve issues whether in BIOS, operating system, drivers, motherboard, and components so that Dell customers will have the most reliable platforms in the industry. This position is in the Client Platform Software Engineering.

You will:

• Root cause failures and issues affecting shipping and under development systems.
• Drive core improvements for future products by collaborating with development teams to implement corrective actions, proof-of-concepts, or productization plans
• Collaborate with partners and vendors in triage efforts both locally and remote 
• Mentor, guide, and educate other Dell team members and partners in techniques and tools to quickly analyze and drive to root cause issues

Essential Requirements

• Strong knowledge of Computer Architecture  

• Strong knowledge of C/C++, Python,and other programming languages

• Strong knowledge ofoperating systems; firmware; BIOS– UEFI preferable;GITor similar source control practices;device drivers; software performance, scalability, relevant industry standards and application administration; embedded software/firmware; tools and utilities 

• Ability to code and guide others to code flexible, scalable and complexprograms, using either written or verbal design specifications 

• Ability to achieve mastery of new tools, languages and operatingsystems with some training and on-the- job experience 

• Ability to code in UEFI or Embedded Controller (EC) environment and guide others to code flexible, scalable and complex programs, using either written or verbal design specifications 

• Familiarity with several Software Lifecycle and Quality Assurancemethodologies 

Desirable Requirements

• Strong knowledge of power management, ACPI, and other computing related industry standards a plus
• Strong knowledge of device drivers; software performance, scalability, relevant industry standards, embedded software/firmware; tools and utilities
• Knowledge of logic analyzer and other hardware debuggers 
• Excited by challenging problems and self-motivated to push to solution
• Experience with computer debug equipment such as Window debugger (WinDBG), AMD HDT, Intel ITP, and Asset / American Arium XDP 
• Qualified candidates must have good software design skills and be able to produce documentation related to software design at both a high and low level.
• Candidates should enjoy working in a fast moving, team-oriented environment

Education\Experience Requirements

• Typically requires 8+ years of related experience in a professional role with
  a Bachelor’s degree; or 6+ years with a Master’s degree; or 3+ years with a
  PhD; or equivalent experience
