JOB SUMMARY
The BI Administrator I will be responsible for administering, supporting, governing and maintaining multiple MicroStrategy environments in Charter Business Intelligence group. This role must have an advanced level understanding of MicroStrategy architecture and the entire MicroStrategy product suite, administration policies, techniques and methodologies. This is a multitasking role and the individual is expected to support multiple BI development and operations teams as well as a large and diverse MicroStrategy user community.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Install, configure, manage and execute upgrades of MicroStrategy 10+ environment including major/minor/patch releases on Linux, Sun Solaris and Windows platforms
Serve as a technical support contact for MicroStrategy
Work with MicroStrategy support to resolve issues requiring vendor assistance
Assist in the governing of the MicroStrategy environment; have an advanced level understanding of how to optimize the environment via governing settings, VLDB setting, and other mechanism
Proactively monitor and maintain the stability of the environment by leveraging MicroStrategy monitoring tools, Enterprise Manager Reports, and system monitoring tools such as SolarWinds and HP OpenView
Perform user administration, including creation of users and groups, removing inactive users, and conducting license audits to ensure adherence to licensing requirements
Understand how to develop automated mechanisms for deploying MicroStrategy projects and configuration changes across the various environments
Implement MicroStrategy Intelligent Cube creation, management and automation
Support development teams for package, object and code migrations across environments
Deploy and troubleshoot web and mobile customizations developed in MicroStrategy SDK
Develop and maintain technical documentation for MicroStrategy environment configuration, development and administration guidelines/standards, support issues and maintenance
Maintain onboarding documents and provide onboarding/coaching for new BI employees and contractors
Provide regular status reports to management
Perform other duties as requested by supervisor
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
Knowledge of IT infrastructure such as servers and storage systems, operating systems, virtualization platforms, and disaster recovery tools
Knowledge of MicroStrategy architecture and all components of the MicroStrategy product suite, including MicroStrategy Architect, MicroStrategy Developer, Enterprise Manager, Cube Advisor, Integrity Manager, Object Manager, System Manager, SDK, Distribution Services, Transactional Services, Visual Insight, and MicroStrategy Mobile
Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and techniques such as dimensional modeling, star schemas, SQL language and SQL tuning
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to communicate orally and in writing
Ability to work in collaboration with other team members
Proactive and focused on results and success; conveys a sense of urgency and drives issues to closure
Team player, flexible, hardworking, self-motivated and have a positive outlook with the ability to take on difficult initiatives and challenges
Proficient in MicroStrategy administration on Linux and Solaris platforms and writing shell scripts for automation needs
Education
Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Information Technology or related field, or equivalent experience
Related Work Experience Number of Years
IT experience in the areas of Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence 5+
MicroStrategy administration, including installation, configuration,
monitoring and upgrades in large-scale enterprise environments 2+
Experience in using MicroStrategy integrity manager and creating
automated reusable templates/components to enable automatic
validation after code migration, version upgrade 1+
Experience in using MicroStrategy command manager to automate
administrative, configuration tasks 1+
Proficient in managing MicroStrategy I-server and web server clusters on
physical hardware and virtual machines
Teradata and/or Netezza database experience 1+
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
MicroStrategy 10 Certified Application Administrator, MicroStrategy 10 Certified Application Engineer or MCE / MCEP certifications are big plus
Experience in cable or another telecommunications service provider is a plus.
