Beauty Responsible Material Innovation – Associate Researcher

The Beauty Responsible Material Innovation organization is seeking a highly motivated candidate to join our upstream R&D organization.  Clean and Responsible Beauty goals are changing the way Beauty Care products are conceived and brought to life.  Current products have high performance and consumer delight but need to evolve to meet ever more aspirational consumer, societal and environmental requirements.  The successful candidate in this role will be a part of the team that is improving today’s hair care products to meet the Responsible Beauty aspirations.

In this role, you will be partnering with a senior technologists to assess new raw materials and formulations with more naturally derived, sustainable, and biodegradable options.  These materials must meet these Clean and Responsible targets while continuing to deliver best in class consumer delight.  Specifically, this is a lab-based role that will own elements of the formulation design, assessing alternative raw materials and enabling the qualification of clean formulas against relevant consumer benefit endpoints.  This role will also include ideating and performing experiments to better understand the mechanism for provided benefits from hair care chassis and identify levers to improve the formulation.

Qualifications

  • Technical Curiosity and Passion to Learn- The ideal candidate must possess technical curiosity and the desire to understand the mechanisms of action behind material and formula performance differences.  Our approach is that we learn by doing – creating, testing, and leveraging results to create superior consumer products.
  • Collaboration – The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record of forming strong relationships and working collaboratively across multiple groups/disciplines to deliver business needs. 
  • Communication - Proficiency in oral, written, and electronic forms of communication. Can effectively communicate ideas, data-based conclusions, and recommendations with multi-functional partners and management. Key experimental learning needs to be summarized and communicated in an organized and timely manner to drive project impact.
  • Operates with discipline & agility – takes personal ownership of work to deliver program progress at a fast pace.  Possess the ability to manage multiple priorities and agility to change if priorities shift.
  • Demonstrated computer skills.  Familiarity and proficiency with software packages such as: Microsoft applications, instrument-controlled software, electronic notebooks and LIMS systems.  Programming experience in Python, Power Bi or similar program is beneficial but not required.
  • Possess experience and ability to learn new methods and improve methods to correlate to consumer habits and practices.
