Job Description

Baby Care Upstream Mechanical Process Development Researcher

  • This is a hands on role to develop breakthrough mechanical processes and technology that will be used to make future diapers and enable new product features.  The majority of the work will be in the lab conducting hands on experiments.  Initial work with a new process can involve testing with mini and bench scale test stands.  Often this will be with 3D printed or custom machined prototypes.  Systematic troubleshooting will required to understand, document, and improve process issues.  Improving the test stand can require modification in the machine shop or precision assembly of new components.  The role will require a high degree of collaboration with Process Developers, Material Developers, and Engineers to share results and to identify and explore improvements.  The role can require learning about new technology and conducting tests to evaluate feasibility and technical readiness.
  • The role will also involve testing and development of complex integrated high speed processes and equipment.  Processes will be tested on large flexible test stands and on a development line.  The role will involve integrating, installing, and precision set-up of equipment on the test stands.  This can involve rigging of heavy equipment and precision measurement.  The role will involve precision assembly and set up of complex process equipment and unit ops.   Components might need to be modified or fabricated in the machine shop using manual shop and machine tools.  The equipment runs at very high speed and high speed video will be used to observe and monitor the process.  Testing will often involve extended run time to allow collection of data and measuring of diaper product attributes.  You will be responsible for conducting tests that involve multiple test conditions and materials.  After testing you often will be responsible for completing product quality or product attribute testing of individual products.  These tests must be carefully and accurately documented for statistical analysis.  This work will often be with a team but can also be individual.
