Role Summary

The Engineer– Avionics provides world-class customer service while keeping safety and compliance the top priorities. This Engineer establishes preventative maintenance procedures and reliability improvements in the interest of safety, cost reduction, and fleet maintenance improvements at Alaska Airlines (AS).

Key Duties

Associate Level

Under the direction of manager, develop repairs, alterations, and maintenance specifications and provide engineering assistance to all departments within the Maintenance & Engineering (M&E) division.

With guidance, provides Maintenance Control and Technical Services personnel with troubleshooting assistance for resolution of chronic aircraft (Avionics) issues resulting in a prompt return to service.

Maintains and coordinates changes to the aircraft avionics and software configurations to meet updated standards and requirements.

Update and maintain wiring diagrams and system schematic manuals, as required.

Assist senior engineering personnel with avionics software management tasks.

Intermediate Level

In addition to duties listed above in Associate Level:

Presents reliability data reviews, including root cause determination and proposed aircraft improvements and/or maintenance program improvements.

Utilizes all available information (e.g., ASA operational data, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) engineering data, other operators’ shared information, etc.) to continually improve the safe and efficient operation of the installed Avionics Systems.

Manages and maintains all OEM recommendations (Service Bulletins (SB), Service Letters (SL), etc.) for priority incorporation into the fleet.

Authors engineering control (EC) documents (engineering orders, engineering authorizations, fleet campaigns, etc.) to direct the required incorporation of modifications, improvements, and disposition of line troubleshooting and shop requests.

Leads cross-divisional team(s) to ensure released EC documents are implemented efficiently.

Utilizes technical expertise and practical experience to disposition complex technical issues.

Researches, recommends and approves part alternatives.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Associate Level

Required

Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a focus in aerospace or electrical engineering, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum age of 18.

Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Intermediate Level

Required

2 years of experience in fleet engineering (e.g., airline, shop, OEM) supporting the operation, or related area.

Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a focus in aerospace or electrical engineering, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to summarize complex technical matters.

Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum age of 18.

Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
