Autonomous technology solutions are a critical enabler for recreational marine, alleviating barriers for entry and reducing anxiety in traditionally stressful operational scenarios. The successful Autonomy Simulation Principal Engineer:

  • Develops and implements marine focused simulation capabilities
  • Work cross-functionally to train and/or evaluate sensing solutions, perception algorithms, and system robustness
  • Drives technical solutions from innovation to product development pipeline and ultimately to production
  • Provides technical guidance to engineers and software developers in creating procedural environments, digital twins, and perception algorithms 

Key responsibilities

  • Specific activities include leading simulation activities for autonomous vessels
  • Provide technical leadership in simulation for autonomous systems development and validation  
  • Evaluate sensor/algorithm capability to deliver requirements of the targeted operational design domains for marine autonomy
  • Lead engineers and interns in creation of autonomous systems simulation capabilities and product solutions

Required Experience/Skills

  • BS in Robotics, Computer Science, Aerospace, Electrical, Electronics and Communications, Mechanical Engineering or other engineering discipline
  • Strong knowledge of simulation tools for autonomous systems
  • 3 or more years of experience solving challenges on product delivery of autonomous systems
  • 3 or more years of experience working with high fidelity 3-D simulation software
  • Experience working with Python and C++

Preferred Experience/Skills:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in STEM related fields
  • Experience with Ansys VRXperience, Ansys Scade, Ansys Medini, Ansys SPEOS, Unreal Engine 4, and Simulink
  • Experience modeling sensing solutions including Lidar, Radar, Sonar, IR, IMU, stereovision and other camera Systems
  • Familarity with agile software development and the development of analysis workflows for product development, verification, and validation

This position will be based out of the Brunswick i-Jet Lab in Research Park on the UIUC (University of Illinois – Urbana/Champaign) campus and will require moderate domestic travel.
