Position Overview:

The primary role of the Automation and Controls Specialist is to provide responsive, competent, effective yet efficient electrical and calibration support throughout the Dunedin Facility in support of manufacturing operations. The ability to support manufacturing, perform work safely, while meeting the needs of production, execution of the maintenance program and complying with all safety codes is paramount. The Automation and Controls Specialist must identify, troubleshoot, repair and calibrate instrumentation, components and controls systems found in our manufacturing equipment and associated processes. The Automation and Controls Specialist must be able to conduct tests, isolate issues, configure and replace faulty components as required. The Automation and Controls Specialist also performs preventive maintenance and calibration of plant instrumentation and controls systems as required.

The Automation and Controls Specialist is recognized as skilled and knowledgeable in manufacturing electrical systems and controls and is sought out to support troubleshooting, development of process/system improvements, preventive and predictive maintenance development and when necessary, for new instrumentation or controls systems. The Automation and Controls Specialist is responsible for notifying management if a workplace becomes unsafe due to issues with electrical and/or associated control systems.

Note: The Dunedin Juice Facility is scheduled to close on or about May 31, 2022.

Job Description:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the operation, capabilities, & limitations of complex controls/instrumentation.
  • Skill in troubleshooting controls and instrumentation problems on production equipment.
  • Reads / translates the information found in PLC code, Schematic wiring, Ladder and P&ID process diagrams.
  • Understands PLCs, HMIs or OITs, VFD’s, Servos, Sensors, Instrumentation and industrial control systems, including advanced programming techniques and configurations.
  • Troubleshoots Industrial Networks, including Ethernet, Data Highway Plus (DHP) and Remote I/O among others.
  • Observe and test the operation of systems and equipment in order to diagnose malfunctions, using voltmeters, process meters, network analyzers and other testing devices.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repairs or modifications with minimal manufactures specifications and documentation.
  • Continuously maintains proficiency in Automation and controls systems.
  • Updates the computerized maintenance management system, SAP-PM, as necessary to maintain accurate plant asset historical records.
  • Responsible for accurate completion and documentation with our calibrations program.
  • Possesses an understanding of calibration procedures for process instruments, which measure temperature, pressure, flow, level and composition, along with an understanding of process controls and troubleshooting.
  • Performs other tasks and special assignments as requested by management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a Minimum 3 years of hands experience with controls and automation in a manufacturing environment, and a maintenance background which includes HMI’s, Servos, VFD’s, electrical, hydraulics, and pneumatics is required.
  • Secondary Technical School and Certification desired.
  • Must be able to read one-line diagrams, P&ID, blueprints and schematics is required.
  • Must possess knowledge and apply electrical standards, including National Electrical Code and UL508a.
  • Must have working knowledge of data network, switches, routers and servers is required.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to use a computer and associated software programs

Education Requirements:

  • College Technical Degree preferred.
  • Secondary Technical School and Certification desired.

Related Work Experience:

  • Must have a Minimum 3 years of hands experience with controls and automation in a manufacturing environment, and a maintenance background which includes HMI’s, Servos, VFD’s, electrical, hydraulics, and pneumatics is required.
  • Must be able to read one-line diagrams, P&ID, blueprints and schematics is required.

  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
