Job Description

As Associate you will manage the design, analysis and construction of structures that can withstand various loads and pressures; ensures compliance with relevant building codes and safety regulations.

You will have direct people management responsibility including the mentorship of apprentices and graduates within the team.

Job Description:

What you'll be doing:

  • Assist in the planning and organising of team workload to achieve business objectives,
  • Working with other structures teams across the Highways business nationally to assist with suitable resource assignment to projects to ensure successful project delivery,
  • Undertake and lead feasibility studies, carrying out preliminary and detailed design, preparing works information and tender documents, carrying out site/construction inspection and supervision,
  • Acting as Lead Designer on medium and large highway bridge projects,
  • Inspection, assessment, design and construction supervision of highway structures,
  • Ensuring designs are carried out in accordance with current design standards taking into account CDM legislation, whole life costing, value and risk management
  • Managing projects to ensure budgetary and programme constraints are met, 
  • Contributing and leading business development activities for the structures team, preparing or assisting with the preparation of technical and financial proposals as required

What we're looking for:

  • Ideally be Chartered Engineer (MICE or MIStructE) with min 8 years Post-Graduate Experience,
  • 8+ year’s experience in the design of complex bridge, structures and highway projects,
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant standards and contracts including DMRB, MCHW, British Standards, Eurocodes and NEC forms of Contract,
  • Knowledge of structural mechanics and fundamental engineering principles,
  • Significant experience designing and assessing masonry, concrete and steel bridges,
  • Detailed understanding of the design process and interfacing with multiple disciplines,
  • Detailed understanding of the health and safety legislation covering the construction industry, particular CDM Regulation 2015 in terms of Designer duties
