Reporting to the Principal Research Scientist, you will analyze the physical structure of food products and packaging, conduct experiments, gather data and findings, and prepare written reports.  You will provide data and information to enable business results in partnership with Food Design, Science and Technology, and Food Protection and Regulatory Affairs.   

What You'll Do:

·                Under direct guidance, develop project objectives, technical work plans, and execute assigned work in a timely manner  

·                Perform physical and/or chemical analyses on products to identify problems/opportunities and generate solutions to maximize/improve product effectiveness and product safety. 

·                Calculate and interpret data generated from laboratory instrumentation; identify and isolate non-conforming work and make appropriate corrections. 

·                Write, review and identify areas of improvement for test methods and technical procedures; initiate action plans. 

·                Research externally to ensure current understanding of analytical methodology and identify potential areas for laboratory improvements. 

·                Perform routine maintenance on lab equipment; troubleshoot and repair as needed. 

·                Maintain clean and organized work area. 

·                Understand and follow laboratory management system policies and procedures. 

·                Maintain accurate records of all test work. 

·                Interface with scientists and engineers to determine appropriate testing for business needs. 

What You'll Bring:

·       BS/MS in Engineering or the Physical Sciences required. 

·       Relevant fields include Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Food Science, Materials Science, Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering. 

·       Minimum of 1 year experience in chemical or physical testing lab preferred, particularly thermal analysis, rheology, texture analysis. 

·       Technical/scientific report writing skills. 

·       Sound written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills. 

·       Familiarity of food product development, processes, and food safety. 

·       Basic knowledge of statistical and analytical tools and fundamentals. 

·       Ability to work cross-functionally with others in a team environment
