Job Summary:

The Associate Product Design Manager is responsible for the day-to-day execution of product design and development of 20th Century, ESPN, Disney Princess and Disney animation/live action licensed and vertical products from concept through production. You will collaborate with internal/external partners to ensure the highest quality, consumer focused, trend-right product lines that build brand equity and meet financial targets. Product focus is on a broad range of toy categories --specifically, 3-dimensional items; injection mold, blow mold, rotomold, ceramics, plush and diecast with simple to complex electronic and mechanical features. This role will report to the Sr. Manager – Product Design.

Responsibilities:

  • Concept, design, sketch, prototype (including managing art-to-product, 3D modeling and electronic breadboards where applicable)
  • Provide clear and concise design direction through character draw-overs and creative notes that guide partners to develop accurate on model characters as well as incorporating key character attributes and features
  • Develop and design product mock-ups, compile line sheets for line reviews, layout creative presentations, and retail pitch decks
  • Execute product and licensed packaging approvals through online product approval system and collaborative approval meetings, ensuring high quality standards in character execution, in-depth storytelling, color, material, form and function
  • Develop collaborative relationships with 3rd Party Content Providers to ensure prompt product feedback and approvals for licensing partners.
  • Identify new toy/collectible concepts that can be developed, which attain marketplace needs
  • Understand global trends in toys, games, novelties and consumer electronics that translate into commercially viable product ideas
  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings, kick-off calls and brainstorms, share best practices with team members and broader organizations
  • Ability to shift priorities quickly to meet the needs of a constantly changing business
  • Monitor competitors, product innovation and market dynamics
  • Initiative to continually update current level of expertise
  • Entrepreneurial and innovative thinker who embraces change and taking on new challenges

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in industrial design, product design or graphic design
  • 4+ years product design/development experience required
  • Experience with 3D development and manufacturing of toys and/or collectibles
  • Strong communication and presentation skills and the ability to provide thoughtful, clear creative art direction of partners and vendors
  • Exhibit interest and knowledge of currently trends and understand features and play pattens in the toy industry
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a dynamic, deadline driven environment that revolves around multiple product development calendars
  • Advanced skills in Adobe and Microsoft applications required
  • Portfolio demonstrating design excellence and superior problem solving
