Amazon has built incremental lab capacity, and implemented diagnostic testing for employees, performing over 1 million Covid-19 tests in the past 12 months in the Manchester based facility. While we are continuing to focus on protecting our staff from Covid-19, we are looking to expand testing capabilities into new and novel areas and are looking for an Associate Lab Director that can support us in this mission.

Key Responsibilities
· Provide day-to-day onsite supervision of testing personnel, providing guidance, direction and reporting of test results in accredited, high performance laboratory, reporting to Laboratory Director
· Assist with the design and implementation of novel diagnostics consistently providing accurate and reliable results.
· Assume primary responsibility for the performance of all laboratory procedures in the absence of the Lab Director
· Consistently exercise discretion and independent judgement in providing supervision of test performance by qualified lab personnel
· Monitor test analyses and examinations to ensure that adequate levels of analytic performance are maintained
· Work cooperatively in a team environment supporting senior laboratory and management staff
· Ensure operational compliance with the clinical laboratory’s Quality Management Systems Program and delivery of routine QMS associated metrics, as well as maintenance and supervisory of the proficiency testing (PT) program
· Monitor key financial, quality, and efficiency indicators and recognises opportunities for improvement

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· PhD in biomedical sciences subject, Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences or HCPC registration as a biomedical scientist or clinical scientist.
· Have extensive knowledge of microbiology or molecular biology, next generation sequencing and diagnostic techniques
· Have experience as a senior manager of laboratory facilities, operating at CL2 or above

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Have extensive experience directing or supervising high performance molecular or gross diagnostic testing in a laboratory
· Recognised management qualifications and /or attendance at courses on relevant management issues
· Experience managing large teams of scientists
