Role Purpose
- Working for HSBC Asset Management (AM), the Associate Director, Strategic Business Development & Corporate Management will report to and support the AM Global Head of Strategy, UK & International CEO, for developing AM’s global strategy, global initiatives, M&A development and oversight of AM’s ‘International Markets’, helping the Global CEO, to grow a profitable, client centric and externally recognised business, focused on investment excellence. The individual will work closely with the broader Strategic Business Development & Global Corporate Management Team.
- The individual is responsible for supporting to deliver the following key initiatives:
- AM organic strategic business development: Supporting the AM organic strategic business development initiatives roll out on a global basis (ex-Asia Pacific). Ensure proper and timely consideration of market, industry and competitor analysis (including benchmarking) to support planning and performance management activities
- AM inorganic strategic business development: Supporting the AM Global CEO with the inorganic strategic business development (ex-Asia Pacific), including mergers & acquisitions, strategic partnerships activities
- AM Global Corporate Management: Supporting the AM Global Head of Corporate Management to manage and drive a commercially successful business with efficient internal governance across AM’s entities including driving consistency and streamlining of internal governance and reporting across AM entities, responsible for local corporate management teams. Includes CEO office/ Chief of Staff support e.g. townhall and internal communication coordination, oversight of CEO scorecards and performance measurement, business cases and reporting to group forums
- AM International: Supporting the AM Head of International on strategic business development initiatives in International markets ex Asia Pacific i.e. Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Bermuda, Turkey, Malta & Saudi Arabia
- Relationship management: Help to manage relationships with all key AM stakeholders: AM Global CEO, AM Institutional & Wholesale Client Businesses, AM Investments, AM Capability Businesses, AM Country Heads / Country CEOs, AM Finance, AM Risk, AM Legal, AM Regulatory Compliance / FCC & AM HR) & Group stakeholders (e.g. Group & WPB Strategy, Group M&A, GB&M, CMB, WPB, INS, GPB, GM, BSM, HSS & GLCM etc.)
Key Accountabilities
- AM organic strategic business development: Supporting the AM Global Head of Strategy, UK & International CEO to deliver the global organic strategic business development initiative (grow & prioritise / optimise) and help drive and track this programme; and also support local markets with organic strategic business development support (ex-Asia Pacific). Ensure proper and timely consideration of market, industry and competitor analysis (including benchmarking) to support planning and performance management activities
- AM inorganic strategic business development: Supporting the AM Global Head of Strategy, UK & International CEO to deliver the inorganic strategic business development initiatives, including mergers & acquisitions, strategic partnerships activities (ex-Asia Pacific)
- AM Global Corporate Management: Supporting the AM Global Head of Corporate Management to manage business management activities (ex-Asia Pacific) for the Global CEO, including the coordination of the AM Global EXCO, Global MANCO, and the organisation of the AMB Board agenda & management of the Chairman and iNEDs. Help to drive consistency and streamlining of internal governance and reporting across AM entities, responsible for local corporate management team. Includes CEO office/ Chief of Staff support e.g. townhall and internal communication coordination, oversight of CEO scorecards and performance measurement, business cases and reporting to group forums

Role Context

- The role is expected to support the Global Head of Strategy & International CEO to deliver high quality strategic business development services to HSBC standards; Expected to provide clear commercial judgment; Expected to interact with and influence a diverse group of senior stakeholders who are geographically spread and may have different requirements (local, regional and global) and competing demands; Expected to flexibly adapt to a changing set of demands, triggered by, for example: changes in Regulation, and management requests
- The role requires significant analytical and synthesis skills and a capacity to rapidly identify key opportunities, issues and themes which have material impact with the ability to establish clear action plans
Role Dimensions
- Responsibility for all aspects of AM’s Global Strategy, ‘International Markets’ allocated business on a functional basis and the UK business on an entity basis.

Qualifications
Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications
- Strong problem solving skills including prioritising the key issues that needs to be focused
- Well-developed analytical skills and ability to draw insights from a complex set of data sources
- Ability to work independently and able to work in a small team with a flat structure to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Experience of investment management and or strategy experience
- Extensive understanding of financial services markets
- Proven track record in delivering on growth or business change projects
- Excellent ability to interact at senior levels with key stakeholders including: decision makers and senior executives
- Excellent quantitative and qualitative analysis skills
- Strong influencing skills with the ability to work across a diverse group of stakeholders
- Ability to manage conflict and prioritise based on shareholder benefit
- Ability to work collaboratively in highly technical global team - comfortable working with cross-border teams and building a common culture
- Professional qualifications e.g. ideally one of CFA, MBA, IMC
