The International Benefits Lead  is responsible for managing the design and implementation of global benefits programs, assisting with the development of benefits strategy and guiding principles, ensuring plan design is aligned with company objectives, ensuring governance/compliance, assessing financial impact and managing global benefits-related projects. The position partners closely with various stakeholders including Global COE leads (wellbeing, retirement, compensation, and work life) regional benefits COE leads, local senior market leaders, Human Resources (Talent, Onboarding, DE&I) finance/tax, legal, global procurement, and enterprise services.  Manages external vendors and consultants. This role partners very closely with People Services to ensure benefit plans and programs as designed are operational and employee experience is optimized.

Responsibilities

  • Leads global benefit projects and initiatives— working closely with Regional COEs and other stakeholders to ensure timely and successful deliverables from COE perspective.

  • Lead, partner with, consult and influence local/regional benefits teams to develop comprehensive ex-US benefits strategy, global programs/guiding principles, core minimum standards that align with our new BMS culture and business strategy. Provide support to the regional COE team members in navigating complexities of the end to end design process.

  • Manage strategic plan design, vendor selection, and communications for all global benefits plans, including risk plans, global programs e.g. expatriate medical plan, retiree expat retiree life and medical and business medical travel for expatriates, third country nationals and business travelers and global severance plans

  • Lead and partner across global organization to recommend, analyze and implement global benefits-related projects-- such as preferred vendor selection,  compliance reviews, financial implications, legal compliance, process improvement, market/competitive benchmarking & analyses.

  • Focuses on employee experience initiatives to drive employee engagement and perceived value of our Total Rewards offering (e.g. Total Rewards Statement/Experience, optimize self service tools for COE developed content and translations)

  • Oversee multinational pooling arrangements, including vendor management, reporting, dividend payment,  communications and training

  • Lead the implementation of Captives for employee benefits OUS in partnership with Risk Management—a new financing vehicle for BMS

  • Manage all aspects of global brokering relationship

  • Manages compliance and governance via our global international benefits inventory database.  Ensure integrity of database through annual audits and enhances tool’s functionality as needed

  • Uses GBA analytics and other data tools/reports (e.g. GBM analytics, data lake, pooling reports) to support benefit planning decisions on an enterprise level

  • Continuously monitors worldwide economics, politics and legislation to anticipate employee benefit impact and ensure BMS plans are compliant with all local regulations

  • Partners with People Services in developing Global Benefits Book of Work OUS, Strong partnership with Business Travel, Security and Emergency Response Team.  Lead annual global benefits pharmaceutical survey submission.

  • Partners closely with Global Compensation Enterprise Lead to ensure global alignment and consistent in the Total Rewards approach where applicable and possible.

  • Assists in developing and implementing effective and thoughtful communications to ensure stakeholders understand deliverables.

  • Recommends process improvements for international benefits plans and delivery systems.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and six to eight years of progressively responsible positions in benefits, preferably some exposure to international benefits programs and administration.  MBA or equivalent preferred in HR management or related field

  • Ability to effectively lead, project manage, consult and influence individuals and global teams from design to the implementation stage

  • Proven ability to work well independently and manage many projects at once

  • Ability to work effectively across different countries, cultures, business units, and levels of management

  • Experience with a full array of benefits programs including retirement plans, medical plans, life, AD&D, disability plans, flex, work/life benefits and benefit allowances, severance programs, etc.

  • Experience in analyzing competitive benefit practices.  Solid technical knowledge of regulatory requirements.

  • Experience with Works Council and union negotiations

  • Strong analytical, judgment, problem solving and conceptual skills

  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills

  • Bilingual skills strongly preferred

  • Ability to travel internationally as needed

  • Role may require flexibility with calls outside of US normal working hours

  • Experience with desk tools including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and in general, Microsoft Office.
