The Compliance function is a Second line of defence (LOD) function, responsible for reviewing and challenging the activities of the Group’s businesses (also referred to as “the First LOD”) to ensure that they effectively manage, as “Risk Owners”, the Regulatory and Financial Crime Compliance risks inherent in or arising from the conduct of their activities and for which they are responsible. The Second LOD consists of 'Risk Stewards' who are independent of the commercial risk-taking activities undertaken by the First LOD. The Compliance function is a Risk Steward for a number of non-financial risks in accordance with HSBC Group’s risk framework.

We are currently seeking an ambitious individual to join our team as an Assistant Manager, Markets and Securities Services Compliance (Digital Coverage), working together with colleagues to define, manage and achieve divisional business targets.

Role Purpose

This Assistant Manager will provide support to the Markets & Securities Services (MSS) Compliance Global Head of Digital in providing global Compliance leadership and oversight to MSS digital initiatives, including digital currencies and electronic trading. The role spans across all MSS business areas in order that line management can ensure awareness of new and developing issues and risks in relation to digital developments, and ensure that the business is conducted in accordance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations and codes of practice.

This role forms part of the Global and Regional Regulatory Compliance team that provides independent oversight and challenge of risk management practices across the Global Markets businesses, Global Functions and / or jurisdictions within the second line of defence to obtain reasonable assurance that as regards digital projects and innovations they are operating in line with relevant laws, regulations, codes and HSBC Group Standards.

In this role, you will:

  • Ensure positive and professional working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including Compliance function colleagues.
  • Maintain active participation and good attendance in assigned committees and working groups
  • Provide oversight and reporting as it relates to compliance policies, procedures, risk management and regulatory requirements.
 

Qualifications

 

To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • A broad understanding of the current and future digital agenda including eTrading, Algos, digital assets and currencies, in order that line management can ensure that the business is conducted in accordance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations and codes of practice.
  • Ambition to enhance compliance knowledge and skills in a rapidly changing and dynamic Markets & Securities Services environment.
  • Ability to work across all levels of the organisation to understand cross-functional linkages and interdependencies, as well as the implications of Compliance risk at both a strategic level and at the business unit level.
  • Capability to coordinate, collate, manage and manipulate information regarding a range of projects and regulatory and / or risk management requirements to support timely identification and reporting of key risks and issues to Compliance line management.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills and confidence to deal with senior and executive level staff to defend guidance, sell the benefits of Compliance risk management and challenge their operating environment.
