Key Accountabilities

Reporting directly to the Archives Manager, your main focus will be accessioning and appraising new material into the archive, cataloguing, and supervising volunteers.  Applying your expertise and knowldge you will:

  • process acquisitions both from external donors and from the Trust.
  • contribute to the development of a records management strategy
  • accesssioning an appraisal 
  • cataloguing to International Standard for Archival Description ISAD(G)
  • application of GDPR, FOI & Copyright legislation for access
  • supervise the day-to-day administration, management and work of archive volunteers, including providing training. 
  • promote the archive both internally and externally, in-person and remotely

About you:

Essential

  • Postgraduate qualification in Archives Administration, or equivalent experience evidenced by Archives and Records Association (ARA) accredited Continuing Professional Development
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of archival principles and archival theory and ability to apply these principles in practice on a daily basis
  • Experience of arranging and processing accessions
  • Knowledge of archive appraisal
  • Knowledge of cataloguing to International Standard for Archival Description ISAD(G)
  • Knowledge of public records, copyright and data protection legislation 
  • Good working knowledge of IT software and packages, including Microsoft Office
  • Ability to prioritise workload and delegate where appropriate
  • Ability to apply archival expertise to make confident and accountable decisions 
  • Highly developed analytical skills
  • Methodical and logical approach with excellent attention to detailExcellent planning and organisational skills to prioritise and delegate work to volunteers, using professional judgement to determine when this is appropriate

Desireable

  • Knowledge of the records lifecycle and records management standards such as ISO15489 
  • Experience of archive management software 
  • Experience training and supervising volunteers
  • Understanding of digitisation and issues relating to digital preservation
