We are currently seeking an ambitious individual to join our team as Archivist, working together with colleagues to define, manage and achieve divisional business targets.

Role Purpose

The Archivist will provide specialist expertise and hands-on care to support and develop the archive collections in order to reinforce the bank’s purpose, values and strategy – driving engagement with employees, clients; shareholders, dignitaries, regulators and other stakeholders.

In this role, you will:

  • Be responsible for appraising, accessioning and cataloguing physical and born-digital records in accordance with HSBC Archives standards.
  • Carry out detailed historical research to respond to enquiries from academics, genealogists, journalists, local historians, special interest groups etc.
  • Carry out records retrievals and supervises visiting researchers.
  • Plan and lead physical preservation projects and business continuity planning at the London Archive Centre in order to protect the collections.
  • Support the programme to collect historical records from key departments within businesses and functions.
  • Support content development for the HSBC History website through research, digitisation and data quality programmes. This involves acting as the primary contact point for external vendors working on outsourced digitisation.  
  • Deliver tours and history presentation at the London Archive Centre for employees, clients and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in other engagement projects that leverage our heritage (e.g. anniversary events, history presentations via Zoom, exhibitions, social media content).
 

Qualifications

 

To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Have qualification in Archives Management (or related discipline) and / or proven track record of implementing collections management programmes in the heritage sector.
  • Have an expert knowledge of archives trends and current best practice.
  • Have good presentation skills.
  • Research and storytelling skills with some experience of interpreting and curating history topics.
  • Have some experience of processing born-digital records.
  • Have interpersonal, strategic planning, and project management skills.
  • Have basic knowledge of the financial service industry and global marketplace.
