Job Description

Within the Water department, we work with 80 passionate professionals on water issues at home and abroad. The department is a national department and consists of people who work in areas such as water management, water chain and water safety. Sweco provides solutions to protect our country now and in the future against flooding, to maintain or improve the freshwater supply and water quality and to improve the ecological quality of our surface waters.

The Netherlands faces major challenges: the transition of the rural area, achieving the WFD objectives, housing construction task, climate change and increasing biodiversity. As a Water Quality and Aquatic Ecology Consultant, you are involved in, for example, the redevelopment of stream systems, but also in the development of new residential areas or purification swamps. You advise our client on the assessment systems and the Water Framework Directive system. You are also familiar with the relevant water quality tools and models and you know how to apply them. In close interaction with our hydrologists, you are able to translate your system knowledge of water systems into clear, practically applicable advice and solutions for the customer. Your clients will mainly be water boards, provinces and Rijkswaterstaat.

You will also play an initiating role in further expanding the water quality and aquatic ecology field within Sweco, working together with our growing group of ecologists and hydrologists. You are in frequent contact with your customer and in this way you quickly build up an (internal and external) network. You use this to acquire and impart knowledge and skills, so that you lift the department to an even higher level.

This is what you bring

  • A relevant HBO/WO education, for example in Aquatic Ecology, Land and Water Management, Biology, Environmental Sciences or Physical Geography
  • At least five years of relevant work experience, preferably at a consultancy or engineering firm
  • A good network in the field and the ability to generate work for yourself and the team you work in
  • Ambition and the willingness to invest in your own future and that of your team, whereby you enjoy being involved in both content and process;
  • Dare to look beyond borders, you are curious, enterprising and customer-oriented

This is what you can expect from us

  • You work on challenging projects that really matter
  • A modern and hybrid work environment that is vibrant, embraces differences and encourages personal leadership
  • Ample development opportunities to keep growing
  • A close-knit team with the best people
  • Lots of trust, support and a helping hand
