Job Description and Requirements:
This position is responsible for performing research trials and maintaining recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) for the ADM Animal Nutrition Science and Technology team.  The goal of the facility is new product development for the aquaculture industry through executing research priorities that support business objectives.  The person in this position will work primarily with the aquaculture wet lab manager to conduct trials, but may also assist in pilot-scale feed manufacturing and lab analysis (e.g., water quality, tissue analysis) at the facility.    The position will also require flexible schedules to allow working weekends and holidays on a rotational basis.
This position requires fundamental aquaculture skills to operate independently within the facility such as a working knowledge of complete life cycle rearing of target species (tilapia, shrimp, and marine species), RAS operation and maintenance, disease management, water quality management, and research methodologies. The position will also assist with the development of SOPs and models for trials, ordering equipment and supplies, and acquiring animals (i.e., fish and shrimp) for trials.  The successful candidate will have strong communication skills while functioning on a diverse team.  The person will support projects in ADM Animal Nutrition Science and Technology Aquaculture Team pipeline.
Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Complete life cycle rearing of target species (e.g., tilapia, shrimp, & salmon)
  • General animal husbandry
  • Collect trial data and assist in completion of trial reports
  • Sample preparation and lab analysis
  • Set up, maintain, troubleshoot, and modify RAS
  • Maintain optimal water quality conditions
  • Develop SOPs and study templates
  • Schedule flexibility on a rotational basis to cover weekends and holidays

Required Education and Experience:

  • B.S. in relevant area (e.g. biology, animal science) with 2+ years of experience with RAS or Preferred candidate: M.S. in relevant area (e.g., aquaculture, fish physiology, fish nutrition) or
    • Other candidates may be considered based upon relevant knowledge and experience
  • General plumbing and small pump knowledge
  • Experience implementing SOPs and following study designs
  • Working knowledge of RAS and animal husbandry
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data management
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communication
  • Ability to communicate to diverse audiences including technical and non-technical stakeholders
