We are looking for a Senior Applied Scientist to join the Video Quality Analysis (VQA) team. In this role you will leverage your strong background in Computer Vision and Machine Learning to help build the next generation of automated audio/video analysis at Amazon scale. Our business growth exceeds the capacity for people to monitor 1000s of global broadcast channels, 50,000+ annual live events across a wide variety of video formats, encoder profiles and monitoring points. We need to teach computers to automate that job for us so our customers always have the best possible experience. This role requires a pragmatic technical leader comfortable with ambiguity, capable of delivering and summarizing complex data and modelsthrough clear visual and written explanations. The ideal candidate will have experience with machine learning models and audio/video/image processing domain experience. Additionally, we are seeking candidates with strong rigor in applied sciences and engineering, creativity, curiosity, and great judgment.
You will work as part of one of our Agile teams, launching and growing new initiatives for Amazon's global business. As an applied scientist, you will be involved in every aspect of the process - from research, idea generation, and data analysis through to development and deployment across a variety of technologies - giving you true ownership on the future of our products. Together we take on hard technical problems, and build systems which meet high standards of performance and operate at massive scale.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
· Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
· Master's in Computer Science, Mathematics, Machine Learning, or related quantitative field
· Working knowledge of computer vision/image processing and audio/video technology
· At least one publication, as first author, in a leading conference or journal related to machine learning.
· Theoretical understanding of broad machine learning concepts, with deep and demonstrable expertise in at least one topic or application of machine learning.
· A PhD in CS, Machine Learning or in a highly quantitative field.
· Hands-on experience with popular deep learning frameworks such as MxNet and Tensor Flow.
Prior work experience as an applied scientist or engineer at a technology company
· Experience with digital signal processing and/or video compression.
