Application Engineer III (DevOps Engineer III)

Description

Cox Communications is looking for a platform and application support engineer who will be responsible for engineering and operations support for Assisted Sales.  The primary focus of the role is to leverage aspects of platform engineering to automate and tune the platform build and configurations.  This position requires interactions with Enterprise Solution Design, OS Administration, Network Engineering, DevOps and testing teams.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions

•    Design, document, configure and automate the platform build for non-prod environments

•    Create MOPs and facilitate handoffs to the production support team

•    Drive platform improvements and standardization efforts

•    Analyze platform statistics and provide tuning recommendations

•    Work closely with enterprise configuration management team to build CI/CD pipelines

•    Work with minimal supervision and able to handle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced agile development environment

•    Support non-production and production environments as part of a 24×7 on-call rotation

•    Communicate clearly with boundary partners (Enterprise Solution Design, OS Administration, Network Engineering, DevOps and testing teams)

Qualifications Required

•    Solid understanding of Java application platforms and cloud technology (Kubernetes)

•    Excellent scripting skills (Ansible, Chef, Puppet)

•    Familiarity with source control tools (GIT, SVN), Jenkins CI/CD

•    Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with great attention to detail

•    Ability to work with minimal direction and in a team environment

•    Ability to learn and understand new technology quickly and thoroughly

•    3+ years of experience in a DevOps position or comparable engineer role

•    2+ years of experience with Linux operating systems or command line proficiency

•    Strong written and oral communications skills

Preferred

•    BS/BA in related discipline (i.e., Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems)

•    Experience with the ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana)

•    Experience working with APM tools such as New Relic or Splunk

•    Experience with Agile development methodologies
