Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Application Engineer, High Voltage Heater is responsible for the development and launch in our Emissions Thermal Turbo Systems (ETTS) e-mobility business segment.  As part of BorgWarner ETTS, he/she will work with OEM customers and a cross-functional global team to ensure design, testing and development of High Voltage Coolant Heater products, preserving product integrity and functionality with respect to design intent and protecting the customer.  This position will report directly to an Application Engineering Manager.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Proactively seek out new customer opportunities with existing products or new products for continued business growth
  • Define and document required product features based on customer and system requirements
  • Negotiate technical requirements and specifications with OEM customers
  • Work with the design department to create product design per vehicle packaging requirements
  • Coordinate technical reviews and submission of deliverables such as 3D data, customer approval drawings and component drawings in line with key program dates
  • Responsible for all activities related to development and delivery of prototype products for customers, plant, and internal uses; this may include testing, analysis of test results, fault analysis, and problem solving.
  • Coordinate, track and execute validation testing with global team to ensure product conforms to customer specifications
  • Act as lead for technical project management to ensure programs are flawlessly launched while maintaining customer action lists and ensuring customer needs are met
  • Support a global cross-functional team by applying knowledge of product development cycle and APQP disciplines to meet all product deadlines
  • Provide problem solving support during launch, while in production, and in the field
  • Other duties as assigned

Safety and Health – Responsible for completing required safety training, reporting, and correcting any unsafe practices as appropriate, completing work activities in a safe manner, and complying with safety and health requirements for respective position.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronic, Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent
  • Candidates with concentration in refrigerant cycle, thermal dynamics, fluid mechanics and/or power electronics is a preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in customer facing roles
  • 0 – 2 years of high-voltage electrical design and implementation experience desired
  • Experience with DFMEA and DRBFM tools
  • Experience in simulation (FEA and CFD) analysis and interpretation

KEY JOB SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED

  • Experience with requirements management
  • Experience in a structured software development process (e.g. ASPICE)
  • Experience with Polarion, Doors, Jira or equivalent is much preferred
  • Awareness of functional safety
  • General understanding of drafting principal standards, including GD&T
  • Failure analysis and failure prevention skills
