Job Description

What does the job involve?

Do you have a big heart for animals and do you like working with pigs, cows and poultry? Don't mind working with your hands and getting dirty? As a zookeeper you have an important role. Together with your team, you are responsible for the care of laboratory animals for laboratory animal research and fundamental nutritional research and the associated daily activities. You are willing to occasionally work weekend shifts and milk shifts. However, the working hours can be arranged flexibly and your wishes are taken into account.

What are the responsibilities?
• General care (including by providing feed and checking health)
• Carrying out test technical actions (such as weighing the animals and the feed)
• Cleaning and disinfecting animal housing
• Noting down findings and taking care of the correct administration
• Two times a week a milk service and a weekend shift once every four weeks
• Affinity with pigs, cows and poultry is a plus

What do we offer you?
• The prospect of permanent employment
• Full-time appointment
• Market-based salary (between 2750 and 3500 gross per month based on experience) and good secondary employment conditions
• Work in a friendly team

This position requires from you:
• Minimum completed MBO education in animal care
• Interest in animals
• Physically able to perform heavy physical work
• In possession of a qualification in accordance with Art 13F WOD is an advantage but not necessary
• Good communication skills and a real team player
• Able to work independently

What does your day look like
You start your day with a cup of coffee in the canteen where the tasks are shared with colleagues. Then you will take care of our chickens, cows or pigs. On days when samples have to be taken or other test-related activities, you and colleagues will perform this according to a work protocol. In the afternoon the second round of care and observation is planned and the administration is updated. You may take the initiative yourself to keep the stables and surroundings tidy. You can milk the cows independently in the morning or evening and once every four weeks you are implanted in the weekend. All these hours will be compensated at other times of the week.
