The Group Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) team plays an integral role in the leadership, management, identification, oversight and execution of all transaction activity including acquisitions, disposals and joint ventures pursued by HSBC on a global basis and across all business lines. 

We are currently seeking an ambitious individual to join our team as an Analyst, Group Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A), working together with colleagues to define, manage and achieve divisional business targets.

Role Purpose

The Analyst, Group M&A will provide execution, quantitative and analytical support for acquisitions and disposals across all transaction scenarios including the identification of possible transactions and appropriate structuring thereof.

The role will assist project executions, prepare valuation analysis, financial models and presentations and conduct industry research and analysis. The Analyst will develop their skills by working closely with senior team leaders and line managers within the business and will obtain board exposure to a wide array of transactions.

In this role, you will:

  • Perform detailed sector and company research as directed
  • Develop company valuations and create /analyse financial models
  • Conduct financing, comparative and proforma analysis
  • Prepare presentations and business cases as directed on specific targets
  • Interact with various levels of management internally and liaise with external parties (e.g. lawyers, accountants, investment bankers, etc.) to ensure smooth progress of the project
  • Conduct fundamental industry research and quantitative analysis to support the decision making of senior team members within Group M&A, and attend internal and external meetings as required
  • Support / partner with senior team members to assist in the development of ideas for potential acquisitions or disposals to further reinforce the Group’s stated strategic objectives

Qualifications

 

To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Strong presentation and English skills
  • Ability to write concise and clear papers focusing on key issues 
  • Ideally some experience of financial modelling, valuation, and execution
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Exceptional academic credentials
  • Some knowledge of use of Bloomberg, Reuters and ideally FactSet
  • A strong team player who is able to work independently and meet tight deadlines under pressure
