POSITION SUMMARY
The Advanced Composites Engineer leads engineering and manufacturing teams to improve products and processes through the innovative use of new composites technology. This new technology includes materials, tooling, automation, and production processes.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee new product integrations and manage composites related budgets. Experience submitting appropriation requests and all approval processes. Must have a proven track record.
- Conduct manufacturing feasibility studies and develop more manufacturable lamination schedules. Hand calculations, CAD, and FEA experience preferred.
- Oversee the Advanced Composites production cell
- Assist in development and implementation of production automation with regards to robotic gel coat, powered conveyance, and water jet/CNC trimming.
- Develop new company sustainability goals with regards to FRP parts
- Research, develop, and implement all new FRP materials, processes, and tooling. Must be a master in Open Mold and Closed mold. Must be able to satisfy operational and PD&E requirements.
- Create Standard Operating Procedures and Engineering Changes to support any implemented composites procedures.
- Offer technical composites guidance to commodities team.
- Build composites training and support the implementation of training classes
- Composites support for other brands as needed
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
- Must excel in problem solving, team, interpersonal, and leadership skills used to influence others to accomplish identified objectives
- Seven years experience in the production of high volume FRP parts. Must be a master in lamination, materials, tooling, and processes
- Five years experience in product development for high volume boat builder
- Five years Experience in 3D modeling (Siemens NX7, Solid Works, Catia or equivalent)
- Five years Experience in FEA (Altair Hypermesh or equivalent)
- Five years Experience in MES systems
- Ten years cumulative experience within the composites industry
EDUCATION/TRAINING
- Degree in Mechanical, Structural, Industrial, or Naval Architecture. Experience may be considered in lieu of degree
- Lean Six Sigma experience desired
- Certification and all experience in all MS Office apps required
- Spanish and or French language skill is a plus.
