Job Description

The purpose of the Special Projects team is:

  • To provide excellence to clients in relation to varied DB pension projects both for ongoing pension schemes and those heading towards or in the process of buy in/out or wind up
  • To enable clients to undertake derisking exercises and transactions by improving the quality, consistency and reliability of pensions data
  • To carry out special pensions’ projects such as:
  • improving/correcting the automated retirement calculations for new administration clients
  • undertaking pre-deal due diligence for bulk annuity providers
  • providing governance work for trustees including testing application of rules to benefits
    • To assist the rectification team on benefit correction/rectification projects including GMP equalisation/conversion, if the special project team pipeline allows

The key duties / responsibilities of the Actuarial Analyst are:

  • Working directly with actuaries within the special projects team
  • Working on a wide variety of projects
  • Assisting with the development of spreadsheets
  • Liaising with pension administrators to resolve issues in a pragmatic yet technically accurate way
  • Documenting issues/results with clear communication style by email and phone
  • Providing an audit trail on all work activities
  • Drafting reports in connection with the projects carried out
  • Supporting the management of the team’s workflow to achieve client delivery
  • Taking responsibility for own learning and development, in particular with the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries exams but also keeping up to date with pensions in the UK

Skills/experience required

  • A numerical based degree with a minimum of a 2:1 level achieved
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Excel
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Flexibility to work on different types of projects, sometimes simultaneously
  • Ability to deliver to tight timescales
  • Clear communication style to enable work with actuaries and non-actuaries
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
