  Job duties:


Though organizations vary, incumbent typically provides first level of supervision for small team of hourly, salaried and management staff in a specialized area (Cap. Assets) for a large service provider division or in general area (Inventory) for a smaller unit.

Responsibilities are usually confined within specific functional area and closely monitored by an area manager. Incumbent has a comprehensive knowledge of the organization’s accounting processes & systems and frequently interacts and works outside the workgroup to achieve assigned goals.

 Normally there are no strategic planning responsibilities.
Direct reports are hourly personnel and various salaried support positions including accounting analysts and accounting clerks. May have certain management staff.

Primary responsibilities of the Accounting Supervisor I are divided into three areas:

Managing People
•Includes working with financial systems, interpreting and adhering to CAT accounting practices and procedures, and supervising a workgroup of several individuals who generally perform routine and repetitive basic accounting functions.
•Manages a small team and their related workload involved, prioritizes projects, assigns and reviews work, and controls the daily operating environment.
•Evaluates and reports on staff performance, participates in employee selection, provides career guidance and training direction, complies with personnel practices, and promotes team rewards and successes. Provides technical guidance and expertise to current staff.

Managing Expectations
•Communicates effectively within the team and with internal and external customers and data providers.
•Understands and manages customer requirements and expectations.
•Serves as liaison between customer, team and data providers.
•Identifies and communicates goals and objectives of team.
•Provides services, makes recommendations and manages costs.

Performing Individual Staff Work


•Leads initiatives outside team to represent the group (e.g. documenting processes, making presentations).
•Demonstrates a general knowledge of Caterpillar’s businesses, products, suppliers and customers.

Background Experience:

  • 4-6 years of post-chartered accountancy qualification experience - accounting experience is recommended.
  • Must demonstrate initiative, leadership, good judgment and superior communication skills.
  • Analytical, problem solving and human relations skills also are necessary.
  • Big4 background would be added advantage
  • Industry experience of working in a shared service model / experience of working with external service provider would also help
  • Hands on experience in handling SAP would be good
