Job Description

Summary

The Engineer is a contributing member to the site level Data Center Operations team which supports the 24x365 operation, maintenance, and repair of critical data center facilities. The Engineer-II will support mission-critical systems such as generators, UPS, HVAC, Fire/Life Safety, BMS, BAS, and CMMS. Works closely with Chief and other team members to deliver both in and out of scope services. The responsibilities of the Engineer are: to contribute to the daily site operation, including creation and modification of site operating procedures, contribute to the creation of change management tickets, creation of timely incident reporting, site maintenance, and repairs/inspections to help ensure data center operations achieve the highest level of availability.

Requirements 

• Three years experience in mission-critical facilities operating / engineering or equivalent equipment experience including assets associated with mission-critical engineering relevant to the specific site. (UPS, HVAC, generators, fire/life safety systems)
• Hands-on electrical or mechanical skill and competence in the area of non-expertise (for example, electrical expertise with mechanical competence, or vice-versa)
• Strong knowledge of various UPS Systems and architectures
• Strong knowledge of various cooling systems and architectures
• Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills. Ability to respond effectively, verbally in writing to sensitive issues, complex inquiries, or complaints
• Basic understanding of emergency situations and escalation processes
• Understanding of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM), and power metering systems
• An understanding of computer systems, and skill with Microsoft Office products
• The ability to follow instructions and processes precisely and carefully
• The willingness to work 2nd or 3rd shift as needed to support unscheduled projects or emergency operations
• Perform daily rounds to perform inspections and support 3rd party contractors performing maintenance on equipment or new installations
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Minimum Requirements

• 3-5 years experience as an operating or stationary engineer
• An electrical or mechanical trade license or certification acquired through technical education/training
• Knowledge of NFPA code requirements and OSHA regulations
• Experience with building automation (BAS) systems
• Experience with building management (BMS) systems
• Experience with Fire/Life Safety controls and operations
