Network Management Specialist

Summary of Responsibilities

 

An Operations-centric role, with ongoing responsibility for maximising value from the Operational tool set.  The Network Management Specialist is the primary SME regarding what the platform can and cannot do, and how it can be configured to deliver users’ requirements.

 

-        Ensuring that the platform continues to meet the functional needs of the Operations teams.

-        Ensuring that the platform continues to meet the functional needs of Capita’s customers (focussing on contractual requirements)

-        Providing demonstrations, training and assistance to “expert users” with Operations on how to use and get the most out of the platform on a day-to-day basis

-        Advising the Operations teams on how the platform can be used to address issues they face, deliver increased efficiencies, or provide added value.  This includes being aware of and promoting new capabilities of the platform, as and when they are relevant.

-        Advising Service Management teams on how the platform can be used to provide useful Management Information, to provide insight into performance and help drive service improvements.

-        Providing pre-sales input on how the platform can be best used to meet the customer requirements, taking into account current configuration and operational impact.

Skills and Experience

 

-        Must fully understand the current capabilities of the platform and the immediate roadmap.

-        Must be capable of configuring and customising the platform (within its intended limits) to deliver value and efficiencies to Operations teams.

-        Understands the fundamentals of IP networks, to the level that they understand the challenges the Operations teams face and can easily hold a technical conversation about requirements.

-        An awareness (as a minimum), of systems integration, APIs and automation technologies and how they might be used to automate platform operations and integrate the platform with other Capita systems.

-        Able to understand user challenges and business requirements and translate them into actionable technical requirementsE.g. “Ok, I think I see what you’re saying.  The system won’t do exactly what you’ve asked but, if I could get the system to X, Y and then Z, would that solve your problem?”

-        A good all-round communicator, able to talk to network engineers, clients, Service Managers and Sales.

-        Able to provide good quality written responses to tender questions regarding platform capabilities and approach.

 

Regular Interactions

 

-        Operations teams: To understand requirements and challenges, develop and present solutions, provide training and guidance.

-        Service Management: To understand Management Information and Customer requirements, develop and present solutions, provide training and guidance.

-        Sales: To understand new business requirements and provide outline solutions.

-        Other systems specialists: To ensure systems’ functional boundaries are defined and understood, and to help develop cross platform integrations where required.
