The Sustainability Apprentice is required to work principally in an off-project role in support of the Bechtel Infrastructure Carbon Reporting Manager and Head of Sustainability. Initially, in line with current flexible working arrangements the role is largely home-based with regular Teams enabled contact with the Line Manager. However, you must be able to attend meetings and be able to work from our Park Royal, London office and be prepared to spend a day in the office on a weekly or fortnightly basis, as determined. Bechtel reserve the right to review working arrangements in accordance with need and any change in specific job role. In this role you are likely to be providing off-project support to Bechtel projects as well as corporate reporting. This will be done whilst embarking on a Sustainability Apprenticeship Program administered by a recognised Training Provider currently being used by Bechtel. Project examples include airport expansions or new constructions, new rail lines and motorways, renewable energy projects and master planning or program implementation services.
Role Overview
Primary responsibilities include:
(1) Assisting the Carbon Reporting Manager and the Head of Sustainability in liaison with projects to enable data collection, analysis and reporting in accordance with both internal and legislative requirements. This will involve working with Project Controls in implementing and maintaining robust reporting systems and identification of potential improvements for consideration.
(2) Supporting the development of these process and quality improvements to improve efficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting
In addition to these primary responsibilities, the role entails:
Support to the Bechtel Leads to manage the work in accordance with project procedures and coordinate with engineering, construction, contracts, project controls, permitting and other site-based resources to ensure that any project deliverables fully comply with the scope definition.
A good demonstration of IT skills and a keenness to learn and work with Microsoft Excel and other data reporting tools and other Bechtel Project Controls Tools as part of the role.
Participate in one or more of the following:
Data capture from projects
Data checks/queries
Annual reporting - SECR
Carbon footprinting
Data entry into PowerBI or other tools for reporting purposes
Carbon research/technology research/contact suppliers
Undertaking carbon competency training
Contribute to Progress Reports
Identify potential sustainability risks and issues, and provide effective solutions to mitigate these risks

Basic Qualifications and Expectations
An Average of 6 or above in GCSE Core Subjects of Maths, English, Biology and Chemistry.
Grade C or above in 3 “A†levels (or equivalent) inc. Biology and Geography and one of Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Accountancy or Economics.
Desirable -a knowledge and interest in design and construction of large-scale infrastructure projects and programmes.
Desirable – a keen interest in natural systems and the impacts of building major infrastructure on communities and the environment.
Willingness and ability to travel to offices or jobsites if required. This may involve oversea travel.
